Enhancing Your Eyecare with Technology
Our goal, as always, is to provide excellent state-of-the-art eye care to all of our patients. This requires constant analysis of new diagnostic instruments and careful investment in technologies that have been proven to substantially enhance patient care.
We have recently invested in such a technology, and are excited to announce the addition of a corneal topographer at our west office. Corneal topography is a non-invasive medical imaging technique for mapping the surface curvature of the cornea, the clear window at the front of your eye. Since the
Cornea is normally responsible for almost 70% of the eye’s focusing power, measuring it accurately is of critical importance in determining the quality of vision and corneal health.
A corneal topographer captures thousands of data points covering the entire cornea and creates a three-dimensional topographical map illustrating how the front surface of your eye is curved. It is very valuable in the diagnosis and treatment of a number of eye conditions including but not limited to: keratoconus, pterygium, and corneal dystrophies. It can also be helpful in designing and evaluating contact lenses for optimal fit. Corneal topography takes a short time to perform and is completely painless. At your next visit your doctor will decide if this advanced medical test needs to be performed for you!
